Business Plan Portfolio

By getting immersed in a client's business, whether established or start up, I often leave companies better off than when I found them. That's just the bonus for letting me write your business plan. It’s not just about having a written document at the end of a planning project. It's about finding possible flaws while the ideas are still on paper. I have pointed out defective pricing structures, challenged unrealistic financial projections, created a better selling proposition to move a client from commodity pricing to premium pricing, organized scattered energy into a purposeful direction, and told some clients their ideas where just plain bad and needed work (which we did together). If you hire a writer for your business plan, you'll get a nicely worded, somewhat organized plan. If you hire a strategic consultant who is also a writer...well, there is no comparison when you receive your final document.

Here are summaries for selected business plans:

  • Alternative Medicine Technology: Wrote a comprehensive business plan for an integrative healthcare company. As part of the planning process, I recommended a corporate name change, which was implemented by the client.

Client comments: “Amazing…no one on the outside has ever captured the heart and soul of our company like you did.”

“We were able to restructure our debt with our bank because of the business plan.”

  • Packaging Manufacturer: Wrote a business plan for a highly advanced proprietary high-speed packaging and fulfillment technology providing personalization for nutritional supplements and pharmaceutical products.

Client comment: “You had better research about our industry than we did.”

  • Internet Service Provider: Developed and wrote a business plan for experienced executives starting a new ISP offering high quality online service with the added value of donating five percent of subscriber fees to charity. The plan articulated the company's mission and vision and brought structure to the new venture. It included a phased in approach to launching the ISP. Using the plan, the company was able to better utilize a limited staff on an fast-paced launch schedule.

Client comment: “Very impressive. You under promised and over delivered!”

  • Public Relations Agency: Wrote a regional expansion plan for an international PR agency. The business plan included a comprehensive situational analysis and growth strategy with recommendations on new markets for the regional office to explore.

  • Online Infrastructure Technology: The business plan articulated the company's position in the marketplace as a one of the first solutions to help small and medium size businesses build and maintain an Internet and Intranet infrastructure. Through the process, the pro forma projections were challenged and, as suggested, the client revised the figures to provide a more achievable set of financial goals.
  • Consumer Foot Care Products: Developed and wrote a business plan to organize the company's launch efforts, define a distribution strategy and help articulate its value proposition for the investment community.

Client comment: “The first draft is really helping us move forward. We’re finally able to make specific decisions.”

  • Information Technology Service: The company designed, implemented and supported large and small-scale information systems and telecommunications networks. The company's executives originally came to me with a business plan I felt was weak so I refused to write the plan. To their credit, they returned weeks later with an outstanding business idea, which was honed during the process of writing the business plan.

Client comment: “You started with nothing from us and were able to create the business concept for us."

  • Water Resistant Process for Glass and Granite: The business plan was written to assist the company in securing investment funding, which was successful.

The client liked my work so much I was hired as the company’s first Director of Marketing.

  • Micro-Electromechanical Systems (MEMS): It's a big name for small technology, working gears etched into silicon chips. A very lengthy business plan was written for this offshore client. The plan included operation, growth and organizational strategies.
  • Film Production and Distribution: Wrote a business plan for a vertically-integrated destination company using large format digital film as one of several attractions at educational, cultural, natural and entertainment venues. The plan was written to attract investors and during the course of its development, I pointed out the client’s financial projections were incorrect and the venture would not produce nearly the revenue and profit originally anticipated. Since the financial mistakes were caught while just on paper, the client had the opportunity to reformulate his business idea before disappointing investors.
  • Financing Services: Wrote a business plan for a contractor funding service. During the process, I pointed out the flaw in the client's pricing structure, which would have cost them money on every loan. Fortunately, they revised the pricing before going to market. Wrote a business plan for an asset-based financing company, which was used to secure financing from the investment community.
